Leading the sale is Slash’s photo-matched, stage-used and autographed Gibson Les Paul ‘59 Custom Shop guitar, played during their Not In This Lifetime tour. That’s the first reunion tour since 1993 featuring Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan. Stage-played guitars from Slash rarely appear at auction, particularly examples used on tour, so this is one to watch.

Also featured is George Michael’s photo-matched jacket, then worn in the music video for his 1987 hit Faith and also during live performances on the accompanying tour. Distinctive details align with well-known photographs taken during the era. Then there’s also an image captured backstage during the Japanese and Australasian leg of his 1988 tour.

Among the most significant is an autographed large-format promotional poster for John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s Double Fantasy. This was signed on the morning of 8 December 1980, only hours before Lennon’s death. Thought to be the last item he ever autographed, this is the first time the poster has been offered at auction. An accompanying audio recording also captures Lennon discussing the signing and retracing his signature in black felt-tip pen after the ballpoint ink failed to set.

The auction also includes a Shure 565 SD award gold microphone presented to Queen and used by Freddie Mercury. The microphone comes directly from the collection of Peter Hince, Queen’s head roadie and Mercury’s personal assistant on tour, to whom it was gifted by Mercury. This is the first example with direct provenance from Hince to be offered at auction.

Marking the 150th birthday of exiled Punjabi Princess Sophia Duleep Singh, this must-see exhibition at Kensington Place — the childhood home of Sophia’s Godmother, Queen Victoria — offers an intimate look at Sophia and the remarkable women who influenced her: her sisters, Catherine and Bamba; her mother, Bamba Muller; and her grandmother, Jind Kaur, the defiant Maharani of the Sikh Empire.

Visitors follow the extraordinary tale of a family whose lives the Empire profoundly altered, yet who also became powerful agents for change in their own right. “Extraordinary women tell a story of courage, identity, and resistance,” says Putnam. “Presenting it within Kensington Palace gives us a rare opportunity to reflect on their intertwined histories and present objects that speak of both a global story and the personal stories of these women.”

Complex beginnings

Sophia was the daughter of Duleep Singh — the last Sikh Maharajah of the Punjab, whom the East India Company forced to surrender his lands in 1849. From there, he travelled to England, where he struck up a close friendship with Queen Victoria.

Sophia’s mother, Bamba Muller, was the daughter of a German banker and an enslaved Ethiopian woman. But while her mother grew up in poverty, Princess Sophia lived in luxury as an aristocrat at Elveden Hall in Suffolk. Her parents had remodelled the estate to resemble an Indian Mughal Palace.

Items from this residence — including an ornately painted Indian rocking horse and an Ottoman-style outfit Sophia wears in family photographs — illustrate the family’s rich but complex heritage.

A photograph of Sophia and her sisters, dressed as debutantes for their debut to society, also highlights the collection. “Princess Sophia was a noted society beauty and often appeared as one of high society’s ‘best dressed’,” says Putnam. “Another little-known fact about her is that she led Britain as one of the top dog breeders and trainers of her time. She especially loved Pomeranians and named her favourite dog, Joe.”

Princess pioneer

Aside from the dogs and dresses, people really celebrate Sophia today as the pioneering suffragette who used her profile to campaign for women’s right to vote. The exhibition presents an impressive collection of fascinating treasures—including personal letters, rarely-seen jewellery, photographs, and suffrage objects—to paint a vivid picture of this princess turned political force.

From her home in Hampton Court — where her godmother, Queen Victoria, had granted her residence —Sophia sold copies of The Suffragette newspaper and joined the mass boycott of the 1911 census. She scrawled a message across the form that the government had sent to record every person in the country: “As women do not count, they refuse to be counted. I have a conscientious objection to filling up this form.” The exhibition now displays this document for all to see as a core part of the collection, “No Vote, No Census.”

Lasting legacy

“As a member of the Women’s Tax Resistance League, Sophia was also taken to court three times for refusing to pay taxes,” says Putnam. We’ve displayed a banner with the slogan “No Vote, No Tax” about her role as a suffragette – a slogan that Sophia campaigned under herself.”  

The Princess never quietened; she marched alongside Emmeline Pankhurst at the Black Friday suffragette march. “After the events of Black Friday in 1910, she challengedWinston Churchill himself—then the Home Secretary. She wrote to him to criticise the violent police handling of 300 suffragettes who marched on Parliament, and to support one particular woman whom she saw the police treating badly. She never stopped; she dedicated her entire life to women’s rights. In the exhibition, you will see a photograph of Sophia and her sister, Catherine, attending a Suffrage dinner in 1930, alongside a copy of her Last Will and Probate document detailing her wishes for her estate. Sophia leftmoney in her will for women’s education, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to the cause she first took up as a young woman.”

Vintage watches are having a moment in 2026. While oversized statement pieces have dominated previous years, this year’s collectors are drawn to smaller, more delicate vintage timepieces that offer understated elegance. However, these beautiful timepieces require special attention due to their age and delicate construction. “There’s something special about wearing a piece that has its own history and character,” begins Blake. “Modern watches, whilst technically superior, often lack the personality and craftsmanship found in vintage pieces. Each scratch and patina tells a story, making every vintage watch truly one-of-a-kind, allowing wearers to express individuality whilst investing in something with lasting value. And, with the right care, these timepieces can last for generations. Here are my top tips for keeping these delicate pieces in pristine condition.”

Use Gentle Cleaning Methods

Never submerge a vintage watch in water unless you’re certain it’s water-resistant. Instead, use a soft, lint-free, slightly damp cloth to wipe the case and crystal. For metal bracelets, a soft-bristled brush can remove dirt from hard-to-reach areas. “The gentler you are, the better,” Blake advises. “Harsh chemicals or abrasive materials can damage delicate finishes and components that simply can’t be replaced.”

Service Regularly

Vintage watches need professional servicing every three to five years. A qualified watchmaker can clean the movement, replace worn parts, and ensure everything functions properly. “Think of it like servicing a classic car,” Blake explains. “Regular maintenance prevents small issues from becoming expensive problems.”

Store Properly When Not Wearing

Keep your vintage watch in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and magnetic fields. A watch box with soft lining provides ideal protection. “Magnetic fields from electronics can affect the movement’s accuracy,” Blake notes. “Proper storage protects against both physical damage and environmental factors that can cause deterioration.”

Wind Manually with Care

If you have a manual-wind vintage watch, wind it gently and consistently. Stop when you feel resistance to avoid overwinding. “Vintage mechanisms are more delicate than modern ones,” says Blake. “Forcing the crown can damage the mainspring, leading to costly repairs.”

Avoid Extreme Conditions

Keep vintage watches away from extreme temperatures, humidity, and water exposure. Even watches that were once water-resistant may have deteriorated seals. “These watches weren’t designed for the rigours of modern active lifestyles,” Blake warns. “Treat them as the delicate treasures they are, and they’ll reward you with years of reliable service.”

“The beauty of vintage watches is their imperfections and character, but that doesn’t mean you can neglect their maintenance. Regular care maximises their odds of remaining functional and beautiful for years to come. I always advise collectors to build a relationship with a trusted watchmaker who specialises in vintage pieces. They can provide invaluable guidance specific to your watch’s make and model. With proper attention and care, a vintage watch can become a cherished heirloom, passed down through generations whilst retaining both its charm and value.”

Ben, it appears we have caught you at a busy moment.
“Very much so. This year marks the 10-year anniversary of my first illuminated timepiece, the Tempus Collection. That means it’s important to celebrate a decade of experimentation, investment, and creative evolution. We are starting by opening a limited-edition showroom in Mayfair, launching my new Icon Edition. Shortly after I’ll be heading to Paris for Retromobile, exhibiting alongside fellow automotive artist Chris Twitcher.”

You were born in Australia but grew up in Colchester. Was there anything about your childhood that sparked your creativity?
“Probably a desire to rebel, growing up surrounded by history, castles, and cobbled streets. I recall having a strong urge to shape the future – to be the person designing the next castle, something that would stand for 2,000 years. I was obsessed with James Bond: the interiors, gadgets, cars. Everything felt imaginative, aspirational — but also believable. My ambition was to turn that sense of possibility into something real.”

Why is light so central to your designs and spaces?

“Light is the most important element of design. Without it, you see no texture, no colour, no detail, no beauty. It allows me to communicate energy, atmosphere, and story. Artificial light allows you to shape emotion. It also allows you to create calm, intimacy, excitement or drama. The relationship between light and shadow is also crucial – sometimes darkness is just as expressive as illumination. Often people can’t explain why a space feels so good to be in. More often than not, it comes down to how thoughtfully the lighting has been layered. Atmosphere is everything.”

You’ve created installations for everyone from sports stars to business leaders. Is there one piece you are particularly proud of?

“One that still brings out a childish grin is the ‘Bat Cave’. This was a 3,000 square foot basement I created for an art collector beneath a modern home in Holland Park. I designed it as a fully immersive environment for entertaining and displaying art, with installations that invoked a sense of escapism. The centrepiece was a red laser ‘force field’ surrounding the client’s Aston Martin DB4, which descended beneath the house on a motorised driveway. There was a custom bar, a chrome ceiling coffer, an illuminated bubble chair I co-created with graffiti artist INSA, a cinema, pool room, office and snug, with a complex Lutron lighting system tied everything together. It stimulated every sense.”

Do you have a favourite commercial project – and if so, why?

“My first room at the Ice Hotel is still one of my favourites, largely for the romance of it. I originally visited Arctic Sweden while researching somewhere to propose to my wife, and was completely captivated by how light interacts with ice and snow. That experience made me determined to return as a designer. Over time I built a strong relationship with the team there, as it’s an extraordinary pool of talent. Being able to take my wife back and stay in a room I’d designed felt very special. I was told that the Queen of Sweden stayed in that room too.”

Perhaps one of your most famous projects is the iconic iceberg catwalk created for Chanel in 2010. How did this idea come to fruition?
“Ice Hotel Sweden led that project, bringing together their most visionary ice artists alongside Karl Lagerfeld’s team. The original idea was a literal iceberg beneath the Grand Palais roof, but instead we created the illusion of ice using a timber walkway, water, and a special snow-and-ice mix called sneece, shipped from Arctic Sweden in 30 large trucks. We worked around the clock, using a suspended refrigeration system to control melting. It was intense — but incredibly rewarding.”

It must have been exhilarating to be the brain behind the custom vehicle used to follow the Olympic Torch around the UK back in 2012. What do you remember about the experience?
“That year I narrowly avoided using up one of my nine lives after falling from an 80-foot cliff snowboarding. I was actually on a call with the design team while waiting for my friend to be airlifted off the mountain! The brief was to make a tour bus feel aerodynamic and dynamic, more speedboat than bus. Three weeks before launch, the route changed, meaning the vehicle had to fit under low bridges. I had to redesign a folding roof structure that remained safe for people standing on the top deck. Despite the pressure, it worked beautifully.”

Finally, what’s next?
“Let’s just say, I’m not short on ideas. We should catch up again soon!”

Can you tell us more about Tracing Time, your latest exhibit that was recently exhibited?

“It was a deeply personal exhibition for me which evolved from conversations with Jemma around shared themes. Together we presented the contrast between life in the city and the countryside and we both expressed this through our painting. I suppose, the show was really about what thoughts you take away with you. Think a show of nature and cityscapes: a conversation between two completely different landscapes and how two very different artists perceive their chosen subjects.”

Jemma is equally well known for her acting roles in films such as Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. How did you come together as artists?

“It was through a very dear friend of mine, Amanda Harrington — the best in the beauty world, if you don’t know her. She introduced us and we instantly clicked over our shared love of art. The rest, as they say, is history.”

Some of your work has an interesting 3D effect. Can you talk us through your creative process?

“I love the fact that art allows you to create in a way that is completely up to you, so I work with large canvasses, glue, cling film, and paint. Things can get a bit messy, but that is part of the process.”

Your work is inspired by the natural world and the plight of endangered species. Has conservation always been close to your heart?

“It should be close to everyone’s heart. It’s so important today, and especially for our children. The fact that some of our wildlife are poached to the brink of extinction, such as rhinos, elephants, leopards, and whales, should bother everyone. There are many, many species that need our help.”

Yourself and Jemma will both be donating proceeds from your work to TimeGivers, a London-based charity and volunteering platform for children and young adults. Can you tell us about your link with the charity?

“When my friend, Kate Deighton, introduced me to TimeGivers, I thought it was such a forward-thinking charity. Kate is the driving force behind giving amazing children and young adults the opportunity to have wonderful experiences and feel a sense of community. Along with the exhibition, Jemma and I will also be creating a permanent mural on a cafe in Feltham, West London, working alongside TimeGivers volunteers and students, which is thrilling. I will definitely do my bit again in the near future.”

As the daughter of Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood, music and art must be in your blood. How did touring with your father as a child influence the woman you have become?

“I suppose touring nurtured a sociable aspect in me. Getting on with people and being on the road — with what is basically an extended family — was a wonderful and inspiring place to be. I was around creativity, influential people and musicians from the start, and I am very grateful for having that time growing up, surrounded by such talent.”

Your dad is a very collectable artist too. Does he have an impact on the way you paint?

“My father is a wonderful painter, and I think he greatly influenced me on how I create, and enabled me to grow into the artist I am today. Having watched him as a child, then as a teenager and now as a mother of two, I am still mesmerised at seeing him paint.”

We’d imagine the parties were impressive in your house. Which one do you remember most?

“It often surprises people, but the parties we had growing up were actually pretty normal. We would invite our friends over, play musical chairs and pass the parcel; all the usual kids’ games. As a family we love birthdays and always celebrate. These special memories have led me to enjoy my children’s birthdays even more.”

You’ve also collaborated with Skydiamond, designing a ring sold in aid of Neptune’s Pirates. What does jewellery mean to you?

“Fine jewellery has always been important, and I have loved it ever since I was a child. My mother, Jo, was always glamorous and would wear beautiful rings and necklaces. I loved to put them on, play dress up, and think that one day they would be mine. Jewellery has always fascinated me. As for Neptune’s Pirates, this was another charity that really hit home. They are fighting for marine life such as dolphins and whales, which are still being brutally murdered to this day. Neptune’s Pirates go out into the ocean and are stopping anyone from doing anything they shouldn’t. Go and check them out, they’re brilliant.”

What’s next?

“I will hopefully be doing a solo art exhibition and excitingly, there will be even more jewellery. I will be releasing a collaboration with my friend and fine jeweller, India Mahon, which will all be sustainably and ethically-sourced. Watch out for this early next year in 2026. I cannot wait.”

“These days, there are so many ways to execute your bid at auction. You can set your limit and leave the bid with the auctioneer in advance of the sale, or jump on the web or phone and bid live as the auction progresses. The best way, in my opinion, is to attend a live sale. This way, you can check out the atmosphere and enjoy the experience with a great auctioneer. It is thrilling stuff to witness and an experience you will always remember.”

“As an auctioneer I would say this, wouldn’t I? But it is so important to have no regrets. If you really want something and you are at the final stages of bidding, try not to fall at the final hurdle. Any serious collectors will quickly forget that extra bid in years to come if you are ultimately successful winning the item of your desire.”

Check It Fits

“This sounds simple, but it is actually a very common bidding blunder. Even I have got carried away with bidding on something I fell in love with at auction, only to fall foul of not checking the dimensions of where it would fit once I got it home. Don’t make an expensive mistake: it only leads to a headache.”
